22-P011 Comparative analysis of early axon tracts in the embryonic vertebrate brain

چکیده
Xenopus model. It provides wild-type, transgenic and mutant frogs to research labs at cost and can now also supply oocytes, embryos and frozen sperm. All of the GA animals are quality controlled to ensure that their offspring have the expected phenotype. In addition to these animal resources EXRC is gathering insitu hybridisation probes, relevant antibodies and expression clones from labs; again these are being quality controlled and then made available to researchers at cost. EXRC also has Xenopus tropicalis fosmid libraries available and full length Xenopus laevis ESTs. In terms of research for the community EXRC has undertaken a large survey of chytrid (Bd) infection of the UK Xenopus colonies and is refining transgenesis techniques. Our main aim in this area currently is to identify transgenic lines that the cell and developmental biology communities require and to produce these at medium throughput.

Development of the Early Axon Scaffold in the Rostral Brain of the Small Spotted Cat Shark (Scyliorhinus canicula) Embryo
The cat shark is increasingly used as a model for Chondrichthyes, an evolutionarily important sister group of the bony vertebrates that include teleosts and tetrapods. In the bony vertebrates, the first axon tracts form a highly conserved early axon scaffold. The corresponding structure has not been well characterised in cat shark and will prove a useful model for comparative studies. Using pan...
متن کاملNovel guidance cues during neuronal pathfinding in the early scaffold of axon tracts in the rostral brain.
A scaffold of axons consisting of a pair of longitudinal tracts and several commissures is established during early development of the vertebrate brain. We report here that NOC-2, a cell surface carbohydrate, is selectively expressed by a subpopulation of growing axons in this scaffold in Xenopus. NOC-2 is present on two glycoproteins, one of which is a novel glycoform of the neural cell adhesi...
متن کاملExpression of glial fibrillary acidic protein and its relation to tract formation in embryonic zebrafish (Danio rerio).
To address possible roles of glial cells during axon outgrowth in the vertebrate central nervous system, we investigated the appearance and distribution of the glial-specific intermediate filament, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), during early embryogenesis of the zebrafish (Danio rerio). Immunopositive cells first appear at 15 hours, which is at the time of, or slightly before, the firs...
متن کاملTranscriptional control of early neuronal specification in the embryonic midbrain ”
The complex array of neuronal connections in the vertebrate brain derives from a simple, conserved scaffold of axon tracts in the early embryonic brain. The mechanisms governing the formation of these tracts are largely unknown. We are interested in the molecular cues responsible for the formation of the early axon tracts, in particular in linking transcription factors that are expressed in a s...
متن کاملEvolutionary Conservation of the Early Axon Scaffold in the Vertebrate Brain.
The early axon scaffold is the first axonal structure to appear in the rostral brain of vertebrates, paving the way for later, more complex connections. Several early axon scaffold components are conserved between all vertebrates; most notably two main ventral longitudinal tracts, the tract of the postoptic commissure and the medial longitudinal fascicle. While the overall structure is remarkab...
